Grades K-8 Academics
Homeroom classes are non-graded and students are assigned according to age and maturation. Upon acceptance into the program, students are tested in order to determine precise academic levels and learning styles. An Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) which indentifies academic and remedial goals is then developed for each student. Students are placed in academic groupings according to their specific skill levels. Churchill insures mastery learning through on-going academic assessment.
All students in Grades K-8 receive direct instruction in Handwriting, Reading, Math, Grammar, Written Language, and Spelling. A repetitive, multi-sensory approach to teaching is employed to ensure mastery and retention of material. The staff selects and utilizes curriculum that is designed to meet special learning needs. This includes programs such as SRA Reading Mastery, Handwriting Without Tears, Language for Learning, and Lindamood-Bell. Social Studies and Science are taught in school-wide units. Physical Education, Art, and Music are provided on a weekly basis.
