Director - Lisa Hanlon Schroeder
Lisa Hanlon Schroeder

Lisa Hanlon Schroeder has worked for over 30 years in both public and private schools.  She has engaged in consultation and assessment practices, and in private school administration.  She holds both a Bachelor of Science degree and Masters degree in Special Education.  She is certified by the states of Alabama and Missouri in the areas of Learning Disabilities, Emotional Conflict  and School Psychometry.  From 1977 to 1991, she was an administrator and consultant in both private and public schools in St. Louis, Missouri.  In 1992, along with Dr. John Sumners, Lisa formed the Southeast Center.  She and Dr. Sumners were successful in developing a dynamic program for the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with mild to moderate disabilities.  She soon went on to found Churchill Academy in 1996.

Lisa's very successful vision was to create a model school that would fill an educational void in the community.  She felt compelled to address the academic and social issues that challenge young people with disabilities.  She accomplished this goal with determination, an amazing work ethic, and with the ongoing support of her family.

Leigh Parker came to Churchill Academy as a parent in 1999.  Before long, we recognized her unique talents and recruited her as a substitue teacher.  In 2004, she began teaching full time in the lower school.  She gradually worked her way up through the classes and in 2006, she began teaching in the high school.  Leigh sees her work at Churchill as a calling.  She states that making a difference for students with special needs is what she was "meant to do."  Leigh has a real desire to meet each student's needs and to motivate them to do their best.  She has always shown a significant commitment to the students and the mission of the school.  Her work with the Center For Learning allows her to serve, not only Churchill students, but the community at large.

This multi-talented individual came our way in the summer of 2011 and we knew she would be a great asset to our staff.  She attended both Wichita State University and Auburn University of Montgomery and graduated from the later with a B.S. degree in Physical Education.  Not only does Christy have several years of experience in teaching physical education, she also worked at a local day care as an assistant administrator.  In the mornings Christy is our Office Manager and in the afternoons she is "Coach Hart".  She teaches our students to love P.E. with a variety of creative and motivating activities!
